One thing I’ve learned during the process of coming up with this new sliceable version is that ALL of my previous vegan cheese recipes can now be made sliceable. However, as soon as it defrosts, it turns back into its original form. So many followers have asked for a solid cheese and the closest I was able to come to until now was my stretchy Mozzarella which can be frozen and sliced or grated. What’s so special about cashews besides their creamy texture is their immense health benefits? ![]() ![]() Leave LibreElec as the main OS - just out of sheer laziness (so it boots straight in to my media center, rather than having to double click once, hahah). But I am thinking that I will go for a dual boot anyway. I think this post was more for me to think out loud (along with a few opinions on the matter). Boot time is instantaneous as it is, as I am not using the system for all that much, so startup services have been brought right down to just the essentials - I imagine even LibreElec would need the startup services I have enable anyway. I am thinking that this would only he a worth while venture if I was running on 2GB or 4GB of RAM, when resources would be scarce. I'm proficient in Linux too, so that isn't an issue. Even if my desktop is only using 1/3 of the available PSU, it will still cost substantially more to run than a laptop will. I'm sure you can imagine how much more it would cost running a desktop computer with a 1000w PSU, compared to a laptop. The power is only relevant due to the fact it will save me money on my electricity bill, at the end of the month. The only reason the possibility crossed my mind, was the difference in Rasbian compared to OpenElec on the Raspberry Pi. I didn't think it would make a noticeable difference. Having never used Kodi in this manner on am X86 64bit machine - I hope someone may be able to tell me whether or not it is worth investing my time switching out from Kodi as an application within my Linux OS - to a dedicated media-centric OS. It is not like it is slow when using Kodi or anything (it just occasionally hangs when loading 1080p streams or opening certain program add-ons in Kodi), but if I am going to gain the ability to play higher resolution video (streaming and local) with the system hanging less using LibreElec then I'm all in. As I occasionally use it for other things (surfing, video chat, light coding). If the performance difference is negligible then I will just stick as I am: running it as an application within Debian. It will consume exponentially more than the laptop would, in the same situation (no idea on power it's consumption - I can't be bothered to go and look underneath of the battery, but it will be nowhere near even 500W, let alone 1KW). The laptop isn't the greatest (as in you would not even think about gaming or editing audio/video, even imagery - but it is more than fine for surfing the web and watching videos or listening to music) - I just need to stop using my desktop computer to do simplistic tasks like this, as it sports a 1KW (1000W) PSU and while I know it is not going to be drawing all that power while I am watching flicks. ![]() The main thing I want to know is: will I get a noticeable performance improvement using the likes of LibreElec/OpenElec as apposed just installing Kodi in another Linux distro? Let’s say today we are going to fly into the Socorro Municipal Airport near Socorro, New Mexico. We’ll check the AIM’s table, and proceed from there. Let’s look at 2 of the most typical radio arrangements at uncontrolled airports. In that case, you are expected to self-announce on the Multicom frequency of 122.9. There is also one listing covering the oddball airport with no facility of any kind. The choices in that column talk about whether the airport uses Unicom, a dedicated Flight Service Station frequency, or the frequency of a tower that is closed. If you look in the left column of this table, you will see the column heading “Facility at Airport”. Look for the table just below Section 4-1-9 which is titled Traffic Advisory Practices at Airports Without Operating Control Towers. You’ll find those rules in Table 4-1-1, which is kind of hard to find in the AIM. There are general rules in the AIM for selecting the appropriate CTAF frequency. How’s your near vision? If you look in Chapter 4 of the AIM, you’ll find a version of this table that is actually readable. Here’s the definition from the AIM: “The CTAF may be a UNICOM, MULTICOM, FSS, or tower frequency and is identified in appropriate aeronautical publications.” I put Table 4-1-1 in here as an eye test. The confusion arises because Unicom may be a CTAF. This was my reply: “Should pilots make position reports on the CTAF? The answer is yes. ![]() A call to the Unicom might be helpful to learn the active runway or if there was some activity which might be of concern to you – should someone answer the frequency, but we were told that all traffic in the vicinity of an uncontrolled airport with a designated CTAF should make all their self announcements on that CTAF rather than on the Unicom frequency.” When I was getting my lessons in that region we were warned about the transition from Unicom’s to CTAF’s - essentially that many Unicom frequencies are not manned continuously or at all. I’m an Alaska pilot and I also have some time in Eastern Washington, Oregon and Western Idaho. “I have a question regarding Unicom’s vs CTAF’s. The Lightspeed headset did feel like it had less clamping pressure on my head, and I liked the way it easily accommodated my eyeglasses without feeling like they were being forced against my head. As mentioned, I wasn’t able to perceive a distinct difference in hearing quality between the two headsets. On both flights, I swapped between the Lightspeed and a Bose A20 ANR headset to try to compare them. I flew with the Delta Zulu headset on two flights, one in a Cessna 172 and another in a Daher Kodiak 900 single-engine turboprop. One couple I tested clearly illustrated why the husband couldn’t hear the wife and vice versa, as their optimum frequencies were completely opposite. Women who tried the test generally had better hearing at the higher frequencies. For each frequency, the user has to adjust a volume slider in the app until the sound is barely perceptible.Īs I suspected, my hearing drops off at the higher frequencies, and this proved almost universal in men that I tested with HearingEQity. The hearing test assesses the user’s hearing, running each ear through 12 different low-to-high frequencies. Once completed, the audio equalization system sets the hearing level in each ear cup “to create your individual hearing profile to compensate for any hearing variations between ears,” according to Lightspeed. With the HearingEQity audio equalization system, pilots can run a 12-frequency hearing test while wearing the Delta Zulu headset connected via Bluetooth to the app, obviously not while flying. The headset’s audible alerts warn when it detects CO above caution and critical levels (10-50 and 50-100 ppm, respectively), but pilots can also view CO levels and history on the Lightspeed app. Lightspeed’s Kanari “smart alert technology” sensor measures carbon monoxide (CO) levels in the wearer’s vicinity. This iteration of the Delta Zulu includes the first of what might be multiple sensors that add capabilities and make the headset a platform rather than just something that enhances hearing in noisy cockpits. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity for telephone calls on the ground or listening to music. The Delta Zulu headset comes with a rechargeable battery pack that lasts up to 30 hours, and this can be swapped out with an alkaline battery pack. ![]() ![]() ![]() Good rubber feet, solid glass panel, magnetic intake and exhaust fikters and vented psu cage, which allows for mounting of the cpu up or down.
